Well olso on theis post Iwill posting a story that I wrote for one of my friemds for her newspaper, but this is the longer version of it! It hope you all like it and please, I want to know what you think!
A Voice from God
On June 15, 1990, three year old Beth Morton lay unconscious in the hospital. Her parents, Maria and Ben Morton, were right beside her just where any other parents would be. Maria had tears in her eyes as the doctor told her what was wrong.
"Beth's ear infection has gone too far, and she is losing her hearing," Maria gasped and plunged her hand down to Beth's and clutched it.
"There is nothing we can do for her now," The doctor paused once again and looked at Maria, there were tears steaming down her face as she looked at her little girl.
"I am so sorry." With that the doctor turned and quietly left the Morton's. Ben sat there in a daze and after a few minutes slowly got up and went to the phone. He picked up the phone and held it to his ear, and paused. Maria looked over to him, and saw that there were tears forming in his eyes. He quickly dialed the number and told the family the news. Maria looked down at Beth and squeezed her hand. A tear formed and trickled down her cheek, Beth would never hear again!
The next few years were a struggle for Beth and her family. Beth hated to see her parents mouths move but nothing would come out. Beth developed bad habits and one of them was throwing temper tantrums. On one occasion she attacked her older brother, Mark, because he was saying things in her face and she could not hear them. Her eldest brother Kevin was more sensitive to Beth's lose and he took her every where, when ever he could. The only thing that kept Beth from going completely mad was her brother. He showed her compassion and love, even when she could not hear.
Two years later five year old Beth, eighteen year old Kevin, and Maria were on their way to the Institute for the Deaf in Colorado. There Beth would be able to learn how to finger spell, sign language, and how to speak. During their trip to Colorado, Beth had no idea what was going on, but the excitement that she felt and seeing smiles on her mom, and brother's face told her that they were going some where special.
When they reached Colorado they wasted no time in settling in at the institute. The first week they were there Maria had many meetings with the school board, the teachers, and the president of the institute. Kevin and Beth on the other hand explored the town and even joined some of the classes. Beth had never been to school, and when she spent a whole day with the class she loved it! She loved to be around kids her own age that had the same problem as her, it made her feel relaxed and comfortable to be herself. By the end of the week, Maria had completed the papers that were necessary and both Kevin and Beth couldn't wait for the next week of classes.
Beth enjoyed every minute of every class. The first two months were devoted to learning how to read and write. After she learned how to write, she was writing to her dad, and every one else that came to her mind. About three months later Christmas break came and all the students were allowed to go home to celebrate the holidays! Beth couldn't wait to teach her dad and Mark how to finger spell and she could ever teach them some things in sign language! She was so excited to be going home. When Beth stepped off of the plane she was swooped up into her father's brawny and loving arms. After her dad gave her a big hug, it was Mark's turn. He Picked Beth up and put her on to his back and carried her every where! Beth had never before had so much love come from Mark, and she loved every minute of it.
"Beth, Dad wants to know what you would like for a Christmas present." Maria said, signing to Beth. She looked around the air port, and saw a puppy. She immediately pointed to the dog and signed dog to her mom. Maria laughed and then told Ben, what Beth, wanted. Ben smiled, and laughed at Beth's request.
Finally the day Beth had been waiting for was finally here! Christmas! She jumped out of her bed and ran down stairs, and when she got there, there in the middle of the floor sitting right next to Kevin was a Great Dane puppy. Kevin smiled and signaled to Beth that it was alright. She slowly approached the dog. She looked at it carefully and saw that it had a tag around its neck. On the tag was Beth's name! She fell to the floor and wrapped her arms around the dog's neck and kissed her on the nose.
"What's going to be her name Beth?" signed Kevin as he handed to leash to Beth. Beth wasted no time in thinking of a name.
"Annie!" she signed. Kevin smiled and turned the name over and over in his mind. It was perfect.
Spring Beth and Kevin were back in school, this time Beth was alone in all of her classes. Kevin would no longer be there, he was taking his own classes, so when he grew up he would be able to help kids just like Beth. He had told her that and she was angry, but when she thought of him helping other people just like her, the anger disappeared. Two years later when Beth was seven years old she was told that she and her class would be having one of the professors, come and they would soon be learning how to talk! Beth could not believe it! After her classes were over she went to her room and sat down at her desk and quickly wrote a letter to her mom and dad telling her the good news! After she got the letter in the mail, she sat and waited for Kevin to get done with his classes. She sat there waiting for two hours until he finally came home!
"Kevin, I will be learning how to talk in one week. Professor Dauber will be teaching us all how to speak!" Kevin smiled and tried to be happy, but something or some one else was no his mind. Beth saw this look and immediately asked him about it, but he quickly told her it was nothing. But Beth was not stupid and she was going to find out what was wrong with Kevin if it was the last thing she did!
For the next week she went around to all of her brothers friends and asked them, what was wrong with her brother, and they had all told her the same thing, "It is nothing for you to know about." But finally she came across a girl who Beth had seen many times talking with Kevin and many times she would come to the dorm and work on projects with him. Beth went to her and asked her what was wrong with her brother; the girl looked at her and smiled, for a moment Beth thought that she was going to say the same thing all the others said, but she didn’t.
"Your brother will tell you in time, Beth, I promise you that." She smiled as she signed everything to her. But Beth wanted an answer, and now! Beth continued to press Kevin, but his answer was always the same. Finally she gave up, and ignored Kevin as much as possible. And the best way she could do that was to write. She wrote and wrote, she wrote until she could write no more. She wrote stories, poems, and letters. Her process worked for a while, but two years later Kevin graduated and as soon as he did he announced that he was getting married to a Miss Dana Keeler. Beth was devastated. At the wedding she was chosen to be in the wedding, but she told Kevin and Dana that she was not to be a part of any of it. And on the final day, Beth sat in the back and scowled through the whole thing. Immediately after the wedding she went back to school alone and only corresponded with her Mom, her Dad, and her other brother Mark.
Professor Dauber told Beth when she arrived that she was one of the best students on the class and he wanted to give her personal lessons, and she accepted his offer. She spent the next five years with Professor Dauber, learning how to speak English and French. And when she was fourteen years old you could not tell that Beth was ever deaf. The words she spoke flowed out of her mouth, and every word you could understand. Professor Dauber on many occasions told her that her voice was like and angles, but she did not believe it. At one time Professor encouraged her to take singing lessons, but his suggestion was quickly shot down. But after many times of bringing it up, Beth agreed. When she started it was tuff but her determination pressed her on and she quickly caught on. She is now sixteen and is in the process of making her very first CD. From the story of Beth Morton you can learn, that determination and perseverance, is a key to being successful! Now that is a voice from God!
I changed it a little, and I want 2 know what you all think!
